Bruges is also called Venice of the north because of the many canals in the historic center of the city. Venice of the north is a small town with a population of 17 000 people. The first fortification built when the city won the Julian Caesar. In 2002 Bruges had been selected for Eusopean Capital of Culture. The city is really worth a visit becouse of a lot monuments.
